Experience of Deepak Patidar

Experience in Goat Farming

Mr. Deepak Patidar, son of a humble farmer from Village Sundrel, District Dhar (Madhya Pradesh), comes from a simple agricultural background. He completed his primary education (up to 5th grade) in his village and pursued higher studies in Indore. In the year 2000, he graduated with a B.Sc. (Agriculture) degree from College of Agriculture, Indore.

Being from a farming family, his inclination was always towards agriculture and allied businesses. He chose Goat Farming as a new, agriculture-based, cash-oriented, and zero-marketing enterprise.
In 2000, he received training from the Central Institute for Research on Goats (CIRG) and started goat farmin in February 2001. For his remarkable work, in 2008 he was honored with the title “Bakri Pandit” (Goat Expert) by the institute.

Initially, he started with local breeds of goats. During the first one and a half years, he faced several challenges and financial losses. At one point, it seemed impossible to rear goats inside sheds. However, with the support and guidance of scientists from the Central Institute for Research on Goats (CIRG), he reorganized his farm.

On their advice, he shifted to improved Indian breeds such as Sirohi, which brought positive results – reduced mortality, better production, and higher profitability. Regular support in terms of scientific knowledge, disease management, and improved breeding stock helped transform his farm into a successful model.

Currently, his farm houses about 500 goats and kids of Sirohi, Barbari, Jamunapari, Sojat, and Beetal breeds. Sales are done on a live weight basis ranging from ₹400 to ₹800 per kg.

Mr. Patidar also extends his support to nearby farmers through breeding services, vaccination, deworming, and disease treatment.
In collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department and various NGOs, he provides training to rural farmers. So far, more than 25,000 farmers and trainees have visited his farm for exposure and learning.
